Confession: I’m Not Perfect

Lately I have been really frustrated with myself in the sewing room because the fabrics I’m choosing for my projects often look great together on the mini bolts, but then look… not so great… in my test blocks. They look OKAY, but not good enough for me.

This led to disappointment at the end of my sewing session yesterday when I realized that the palette I chose for my 2nd attempt at making a Friendship Ribbon sample quilt (pictured) looks overbearing at best and incredibly tacky at worst. I don’t know if a lighter pink alone would be enough to fix it, or if I also need an even lighter yellow, or if I ought to drop one of the three colors and do a white somewhere instead.

I think my problem is generally a matter of choosing the right hues in the wrong intensities… but since I have no artistic training, I’ll be honest and tell you that I only learned that those are probably the most accurate terms because I did a google search for color theory terminology definitions.

I’m to the point where I would seriously consider signing up for an online course or workshop or something to help me get better at this, so if you know of any, please feel free to post your recommendations in the comments!

Thank you, and happy sewing!
