Under the Weather, Over the Moon
I’m still here and a few things are still happening behind the scenes, but a flare in my chronic illness means that my sewing room and my laptop have unfortunately been pretty lonely lately. Earlier this week I couldn’t organize my thoughts enough to even post on social media, so being able to write this today means that I’m hopefully on the mend. False starts and setbacks are SO common though that it’s often hard to really tell.
The first exciting news I have to share is that my next design, “Jack-o-Cattern” is in its final round of tech editing and will be available for sale soon! This throw size quilt is pixel pieced with 3” finished squares, HSTs, and a few other special pieces, which means that bold non-directional prints will yield a charming scrappy appearance that I can’t really replicate in the mockup. I am currently shopping for fabrics to make a sample quilt that will be a much better illustration of what is possible with that technique. Also stay tuned for a post with some pixel piecing tips and tricks like web piecing and using lightweight fusible interfacing!
I also plan to write and release a version of the pattern without the pumpkin stem on top so that it’s just a giant laughing cat face and not tied to any season. After that, I’m working on a fat quarter friendly version of Big Fish.
Did I mention? I’m collaborating with a fabric designer at Lumin Island Batiks to make a sample of Big Fish featuring her designs! That’s what I’m “over the moon” about, and that’s what inspired the fat quarter friendly version of the pattern that I plan to write. I really wish I could share the mockup with you - it’s SO FUN - but I have to keep all of the pictures to myself until the line comes out in January.
The printed booklets of Big Fish are here and gorgeous, and are available in my shop.
I think that covers the recent news around here. Now to shop for Jack-o-Cattern fabrics!
